About

Biography

b. Edinburgh, Scotland, 1978

Since graduating with a BA in Sculpture in 2002 and an MFA in 2007, both from Glasgow School of Art, Katri has been living and working between Scotland and Mexico.

Current projects

Buscando Paraíso; an ongoing multidisciplinary project investigating historic and contemporary notions of paradise, the first chapter of which opened at Arredondo\Arozarena in Mexico City on the 27th of May, 2017 and runs until the 26th of August 2017.

Dulzura y Rigor; a documentary film about maternity and motherhood in Mexican society, based on a group of teenagers at Yolia; niñas de la calle, a residential home for girls in Mexico City, commissioned by Jessica Berlanga Taylor, curator at Alumnos47 as part of Proyecto Zonas Liminales, throughout 2014-17.

Una Línea Arbitraria; an audiovisual exploration of arbitrary boundaries and emotional geography.

Artist Statement

Katri’s work investigates and celebrates the fertile space between contemporary art, portraiture in its most expanded sense, and documentary filmmaking.

Subject matters vary widely but the common thread throughout is always the desire to explore new modes of reflection in a world in which reality is never a static given, but a complex set of relations.

Her work is driven by serendipitous interaction with people and places, and is imbued with both playful and meaningful contradictions as she always tries to maintain the awareness that everything contains its opposite.

Through the moving image, and predominantly multi-channel audiovisual installations, Katri looks to capture the nuances between the ordinary and the extraordinary in the everyday, actively turning one into the other and through this, creates intimate works that document the physical and emotional geographies of her subjects.
